NASA AMES TO HOST COMPUTATIONAL ASTROBIOLOGY SYMPOSIUM
NASA’s new Center for Computational Astrobiology at Ames Research Center,
Moffett Field, CA, will be inaugurated tomorrow, Nov. 18, during a
symposium entitled “Computational Astrobiology for the 21st Century.”
The symposium will be held in the Moffett Training and Conference Center,
Bldg. 3, from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. (PST). Three Nobel Prize winning
scientists, NASA Astrobiology Institute Director Dr. Baruch Blumberg, Dr.
Robert Laughlin of Stanford University, and Dr. Christian de Duve of
Rockefeller University, will be featured at the symposium. All will be
available for media interviews.
The symposium will include discussions of computational
astrobiology in a broad scientific context, followed by presentations about
specific astrobiology issues.
Astrobiology is the multi-disciplinary study of the origin, evolution,
dissemination and future of life in the universe. NASA Ames Research
Center is the NASA “nerve-center” for this research effort, serving as the
agency’s Astrobiology Center of Excellence and as the manager of the NASA
Astrobiology Institute.
The principal objective of the Center for Computational Astrobiology at
Ames is to advance the understanding of astrobiology using theoretical and
computational tools. More information is available at:
To attend the symposium, reporters will need to show press
credentials and pick up a visitor badge at the Visitor Badging Office,
located at the main gate to Moffett Federal Airfield. NASA Ames Research
Center is located off Highway 101 via the Moffett Field exit.
