On April 25, 2005, Stan C. Newberry, deputy director of NASA Ames Research Center, located in California’s Silicon Valley, will share his excitement for space with students at the Georgia Academy for the Blind in Macon, Ga. The visit marks a home coming for Newberry, who considers Macon his hometown.
During the visit, Newberry will present the school with a set of books that illustrate the wonders of space to students of all visual abilities. The books titled ‘Touch the Stars’, and ‘Touch the Universe’ written by Noreen Grice, operations coordinator for the Charles Hayden Planetarium at the Boston Museum of Science, feature spectacular NASA images from the Hubble Space telescope and other NASA spacecraft and are full of facts and figures about the Sun, the stars and the universe in Braille and large raised-print. Each full color image is embossed with lines, bumps and other textures that translate into the colors, shapes, and other intricate details of the cosmos.
