What:
NASA officials, Alabama lawmakers and Marshall Center employees will
celebrate the recent congressional vote providing $290 million in 2001 for
the Space Launch Initiative. Projected to be funded at $4.5 billion over
five years, the Initiative is NASA’s effort to dramatically lower the cost
and increase the safety and reliability of space transportation. NASA’s
Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Ala., the agency’s Lead Center
for Space Transportation Systems Development, manages the program.
