Students to Engage in Rare Live Interview with Astronauts Onboard the International Space Station

DALLAS and FORT WORTH, Texas, Jan. 30, 2012 /PRNewswire/ — Mouser Electronics, Inc., regarded as a top design engineering resource and global distributor for semiconductors and electronic components, will partner with Mansfield ISD on January 31 to present a NASA In-Flight Education Downlink for local students.

Tomorrow’s NASA In-Flight Education Downlink is an innovative math and science program that will give 850 fifth and sixth grade students from Asa Low Intermediate School in Mansfield ISD a chance to connect with astronauts onboard the International Space Station. The downlink will allow the students to conduct a live conversation with the astronauts. Students will be able to ask questions through a one-way video and two-way audio session, giving them a glimpse into the future of technology. All students in the district will have access to view the live broadcast on NASA TV along with being able to submit potential questions for the astronauts.

“We are very excited to team up with NASA and Mansfield ISD to present this educational event,” says Larry Johannes, Mouser Vice President of Strategic Marketing. “This is an incredible opportunity for the students to get a glimpse of how science and technology shape innovation. Everyone in the community is buzzing about this NASA space event. We are thrilled to be part of it.” “This is the kind of fun learning experience that stays with students for a lifetime. Our School Board even temporarily re-named the campus NASA Low Intermediate School in honor of this week’s amazing event,” says Dr. Bob Morrison, Mansfield ISD Superintendent of Schools. “We would like to thank Mouser Electronics for their generous donation in providing financial support to make this possible for the students.”

The NASA event is the first of its kind for students in Mansfield ISD, a suburban school district of over 32,600 students. It not only allows students to communicate with the astronauts, but educates them about the everyday importance of studying science and math.
