WASHINGTON – NASA Administrator Michael Griffin will deliver an important address Monday on the role of space exploration in the global economy, kicking off a lecture series honoring the agency’s 50th anniversary.
Griffin’s lecture will be part of a luncheon held Monday, Sept. 17, at 12:30 p.m. EDT in the Chinese Room of the Renaissance Mayflower Hotel, 1127 Connecticut Avenue, NW, Washington. U.S. Rep. Alan B. Mollohan of West Virginia will introduce Griffin. NASA was created by the National Aeronautics and Space Act and began operations on Oct. 1, 1958.
The event is open to the press, and reporters in attendance may participate in a question and answer session from 1:30 to 2 p.m. NASA television will broadcast the event live at:

The 50th anniversary NASA lecture series will feature prominent speakers to discuss the benefits that space exploration, scientific discovery and aeronautics research provide in addressing global issues such as the economy, education, health, science and the environment. Lockheed Martin Corporation of Bethesda, Md., is co-sponsoring the two-year lecture series.
