On Thursday, December 19, President George W. Bush will sign into law H.R. 4664, the “National Science Foundation Authorization Act of 2002.” The legislation, sponsored by Research Subcommittee Chairman Nick Smith (R-MI) and championed by Science Committee Chairman Sherwood Boehlert (R-NY) and Ranking Member Ralph M. Hall (D-TX), would put the National Science Foundation (NSF) on a track to double its budget in five years. The legislation also includes major math and science education initiatives authored by Boehlert and members of the Committee.
Because of prior commitments in his district, Chairman Boehlert will be unable to attend.
