WHAT: Presentations and media interviews with the four research teams (winners of the Space Florida/ NanoRacks ISS Research Competition – providing access to space for innovative, research projects) that will have their research launched to the ISS on CRS-4 along with a 3D Printer by Made in Space.
PROJECTS:
SyNRGE3 (Symbiotic Nodulation in a Reduced Gravity Environment) examines the effects of microgravity on beneficial plant/microbe interactions.
The NanoRocks experiment studies collisions between particles at very low speeds to better understand the earliest stages of planet formation.
The Micro-gRx payload will measure multiple biochemical reactions in solution in a plate containing 384 wells. This type of experiment is commonly performed by pharmaceutical companies and for the first time will be performed on the ISS.
EGAHEP (Egypt against Hepatitis C) will study the hepatitis C virus protein crystallization under microgravity conditions.
(SABOL) (A study into Alzheimer’s) is seeking to develop an improved understanding of the origin of life on our planet, increase our understanding of Alzheimer’s disease and provide an opportunity to apply this new understanding for the betterment of humanity [launching on CRS-5].
Made In Space’s “Portal” is the first 3D printer designed to operate in zero-g.
