SpaceNews announced that it has awarded Maxar Technologies (“Maxar” or the “Company,” formerly MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates Ltd., or MDA) (NYSE and TSX:MAXR) the publication’s “Deal of the Year” award for its $2.4 billion acquisition of DigitalGlobe.

The companies finalized the transaction to combine on October 5, 2017, creating the leading commercial provider of end-to-end satellite, imagery and geospatial solutions. Maxar is comprised of four business units with deep domain expertise and proven heritage in serving government and commercial customers – MDA, DigitalGlobe, SSL and Radiant Solutions. The combined company is broadly diversified, has over $3 billion of annual revenue, with more than half coming from commercial customers, and is scaled to serve rapidly growing existing and new markets globally.

“We’re proud to be recognized by this esteemed industry publication,” said Howard L. Lance, CEO of Maxar. “The award captures the transformative nature of the transaction, whereby Maxar Technologies will accelerate innovation in the new space economy with unmatched heritage, capabilities, resources and scale. As a new space company with 50 years of heritage, we can anticipate and address our customers’ most difficult challenges with confidence.”

SpaceNews evaluated dozens of transactions, from major sales and capital financings to mergers and acquisitions, to determine the most important deal of the year across the space industry.

“Maxar’s acquisition of DigitalGlobe was this year’s biggest space deal, both in terms of the dollars involved and its potential to be a transformative, more-than-the-sum-of-its-parts combination,” said SpaceNews Editor-in-Chief Brian Berger.

Maxar was profiled in SpaceNews, and Marcy Steinke, Maxar SVP of Government Relations and Public Policy, accepted the award on behalf of the company at a December 19 awards luncheon.
