Luxembourg Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Economy, Etienne Schneider, will outline the Luxembourg government’s SpaceResources.lu initiative at the Space Frontier Foundation’s (SFF), NewSpace 2017 Conference, June 27-29, 2017 in San Francisco, California.

“By providing a unique legal, regulatory and business environment, the SpaceResources.lu initiative is confirming Luxembourg’s ambition to become a European hub for the exploration and use of space resources,” Minister Schneider said. “Spearheaded by satellite group SES, the Luxembourg space sector is firmly established as one of the main players of our innovation economy. Companies with strong commercial ideas draw on a full range of support: finance, premises, research resources and a collaborative international network of contacts and potential partnerships.”

Under the theme of “Convergence,” NewSpace 2017 is the ideal venue to outline such a bold and inclusive strategy. The conference will highlight the cross-disciplinary collaboration critical to creating a sustainable space economy by bringing together startups, investment firms, governments, large organizations and the public sector for three days of discovery, connection and innovation.

Minister Schneider will discuss Luxembourg’s ambitions during a special session on the first day of the conference, June 27 at 1:45pm PST. He will also announce the details of a new international space conference, NewSpace Europe, to be held Nov. 16-17, 2017, in Luxembourg City, Luxembourg. Hosted in partnership between The Ministry of the Economy of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg and Space Frontier Foundation, NewSpace Europe will be the first NewSpace industry conference in Europe and will highlight the exponential growth of the space ecosystem across the world.

“International collaboration is critical to the continued success of the burgeoning commercial space industry,” said Josh Guild, interim executive director, Space Frontier Foundation. “SFF is pleased to partner with Luxembourg on this exciting new opportunity.”
