Event reinforces Corporation’s strong commitment to S.T.E.M. education
Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) showcased the importance and value of careers in the technology and engineering fields to San Francisco Bay area students today at the NASA IT Summit 2011 Education Blast Off. The education session, attended by more than 200 middle and high school students, promoted science, technology, engineering and math (S.T.E.M.) careers, and is one of Lockheed Martin’s many STEM activities in support of NASA programs.
During the Education Blast Off, a team of experts from Lockheed Martin’s Information Systems & Global Solutions (IS&GS) and Space Systems Company presented the latest advances in information technology (IT), such as cloud computing and cyber security solutions, and talked about careers in the IT and engineering fields. In addition, the Lockheed Martin team played a host of interactive cyber security-related versions of popular games with the students to reinforce the role that cyber security plays in all technology initiatives.
“Lockheed Martin is focused on fostering the next generation of engineers and technologists to help develop the work force of tomorrow,” said Mahesh Kalva, chief technology officer of Lockheed Martin IS&GS-Civil’s Enterprise IT Solutions business. “The Corporation is honored to have supported NASA for more than 50 years. Our employees are committed to STEM education to ensure we have the talented work force needed to help NASA reach even greater heights in the future.”
The NASA IT Summit is an open forum for NASA, federal government, industry and academia members of the IT community to gather and exchange ideas, share best practices and learn what is new and cutting edge on the internal and external IT landscape. Lockheed Martin is a Silver Sponsor of the summit, and one of only a few industry representatives invited to participate in the Education Blast Off session.
A fact sheet with examples of Lockheed Martin’s recent NASA-related STEM activities is now available. Headquartered in Bethesda, Md., Lockheed Martin is a global security company that employs about 126,000 people worldwide and is principally engaged in the research, design, development, manufacture, integration, and sustainment of advanced technology systems, products, and services.
