I’m shocked — shocked! — that former NASA Administrator Mike Griffin sees the future of the U.S. civil space program as a game [“Let the Games Begin,” Commentary, Aug. 29, page 19].

We all understand that he’s not happy with what has happened since he fathered the Constellation program. But it’s sad to see him resorting to unsubstantiated accusations and supporting the myth that President Barack Obama is trying to kill human spaceflight.

While it’s true that, as Mr. Griffin says, there is “no clear vision for human space exploration,” that’s not unique to this administration — it’s been like this for decades. (Note to policymakers: Destinations are not goals!)
