According to Florida Today, NASA Kennedy Space Center Robert Cabana told employees the venerable facility is ready to do its part to usher in a new era where astronaut transport to and from low Earth orbit is carried out by private companies rather than by the space agency.

Speaking via closed circuit television, Cabana said “I know this transition is going to be hard. It’s going to be extremely difficult, and it’s going to be sad. But we will get through it, and we will have a good future once we get there,” according to the story.
