Jonathan Pettus has been named manager of the Integrated Financial
Management Program’s Competency Center, a key element for operation of
NASA’s new set of integrated business systems being led by the Marshall
Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Ala.

In the newly created position, Pettus will oversee a group of business and
information technology experts who will be responsible for software
development, technical architecture design, and hardware and software
sustaining support for the new systems that will be used by all NASA
Centers. The group most recently was responsible for the integration and
technical architecture components of the critical financial management that
has been implemented at both Marshall Space Flight Center and Glenn Research
Center. The overall program goal is to increase efficiency of operations
and provide NASA decision makers with more timely and reliable information.

In his position, part of Marshall’s Center Operations Directorate, Pettus
will be responsible for all aspects of the information technology needed for
the new financial management program.

Pettus previously served as integration project manager of the Integrated
Financial Management Program at Marshall when the Center began working on
its implementation of the program in 2000.

Pettus joined the Marshall Center in 1991 as an electronics engineer in the
Institutional and Program Support Office, where he helped develop Marshall’s
first Web site. In 1997, he became a computer engineer in Marshall’s
Information Services Department, where he designed software that provided
all employees access to NASA business information from their desktop
computers.

During his NASA career, Pettus has received a number of professional awards,
including the Center Director’s Commendation Award, a NASA Certificate of
Appreciation, and the NASA Medal for Exceptional Service – a prestigious
award given for significant, sustained performance characterized by unusual
initiative or creativity.

A native of Killen, Ala., Pettus graduated from Brooks High School. He
earned a bachelor’s degree in math and computer science in 1987 from the
University of North Alabama in Florence. In 1995, he earned a master’s
degree in computer science from the University of Alabama in Huntsville.
