Kratos Integral Systems International Inc. will provide command and control systems for Asia Broadcast Satellite’s ABS-2 satellite, which is slated to launch next year, San Diego-based Kratos Defense and Security Solutions said June 17 in a press release.

ABS-2 is being built by Space Systems/Loral of Palo Alto, Calif., to support up to 89 active C-, Ku- and Ka-band transponders providing direct TV broadcast, telecommunications and data transmission services for the Asia Pacific, Africa, Middle East, Europe and Russia. Slated to launch in mid-2013 on an Ariane 5 rocket operated by Evry, France-based Arianespace, ABS-2 will be co-located with Hong Kong-based Asia Broadcast Satellite’s ABS-1 spacecraft at 75 degrees east longitude.

Kratos said it has an option to expand the ABS-2 ground system to support ABS-1.
