Mobile satellite services provider Thuraya announced July 6 indoor repeaters and other new hardware aimed at “banishing the myth that satellite communications are an outdoor offering,” the Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates-based company said in a press release.

In addition to new single-channel and multichannel repeaters, the company also unveiled a Fixed Docking Unit that supports high-quality voice transmissions via an auxiliary handset or speakerphone, and a so-called Fixed Phone desktop solution that offers voice, text and data services in a single compact unit.

The new offerings are compatible with Thuraya’s ruggedized Thuraya XT handset and are aimed at the company’s key market segments, including the oil and gas industries, maritime, construction and mining, and government and nongovernment field operations.
