The National Space Development Agency of Japan (NASDA) conducts tests
to obtain basic data for Environmental Control and Life Support Systems
(ECLSS) at closed environment aptitude training facilities of an
Astronaut Training Building constructed in the Tsukuba Space Center
from Mar.13 (Mon.) to 15 (Wed.), 2000.

Manned closed environment tests are part of research aimed at
independent life support systems in a closed environment in space.
Those will be necessary to expand manned space activities in the
future.

The tests aim at obtaining basic design data relating to recyclable
ECLSS which a system re-utilizes air and water. As the first step, we
will conduct 48-hour manned stay tests on 5 crews.
