William Harwood of CBS and Julie Andrews of Lockheed Martin will be recognized with the
Harry Kolcum Memorial News and Communications Award given each year by the National Space Club Florida Committee.
The award luncheon is scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 18. The event begins at 11:30 a.m. EST and will be held at the DoubleTree
Oceanfront in Cocoa Beach.
The National Space Club Florida Committee each year recognizes area representatives of the news media and communications professions
for excellence in their ability to communicate the space story along Florida’s Space Coast and throughout the world.
The award is named in honor of Harry Kolcum, the former managing editor of Aviation Week & Space Technology, who was Cape bureau
chief from 1980 to 1993 prior to his death in 1994. Kolcum was a founding member of the National Space Club Florida Committee.
Following the awards presentation, a panel of space writers will take questions from the audience. The session will be moderated by
Craig Covault of Aviation Week & Space Technology. Panelists will include Harwood, Jim Banke of SPACE.com, John Kelly of FLORIDA
TODAY and Mike Cabbage of the Orlando Sentinel.
You are invited to cover this event. The program is expected to begin by about 12:20 and conclude by 1 p.m. Lunch tickets are
available if you’d like to eat. The cost is $17 and may be paid at the door or online at http://www.nscfl.com.
