Thales Communications of France will provide additional medium- and high-speed terminals communicating with the French Syracuse 3 military telecommunications satellites under a contract with DGA, the French arms procurement agency, DGA announced.
Under the contract, valued at 42.2 million euros ($60.7 million), including 27.3 million euros financed from France’s economic recovery package, Thales Communications also will provide an overseas Syracuse communications facility whose location was not announced.
Two Syracuse 3 satellites are in orbit and expected to provide links for French and NATO forces through 2020. Syracuse 3’s space segment is provided by ThalesAlenia Space, while Thales Communications oversees the ground network.
The latest order follows a similar contract in June 2009, which was valued at 41 million euros and was fully financed by the French economic recovery package because of the work it will provide to Thales subcontractors in France.
