To step up current cooperation efforts in space and identify new joint project opportunities, Japan’s National Space Development Agency (NASDA) and CNES (Centre National d’Etudes Spatiales) are organizing a French-Japanese symposium on space cooperation on 15 and 16 May 2003, at the Kyoto International Conference Hall. This symposium is the fourth of its kind since the inter-agency understanding between CNES and NASDA laying the foundations for long-term space cooperation, signed during the state visit of French President Jacques Chirac to Japan in 1996.

This symposium will allow the partners to present current activities and discuss future joint projects. The thematic sessions organized at previous symposia—Earth observation and natural disaster manager, space transport, telecommunications, Universe sciences and International Space Station utilization—have all been retained, and a new session on space components has been added. The symposium will also feature speakers on subjects relating to French and Japanese industry, and on space education.

This event will give French and Japanese participants an opportunity to learn more about their partner nations and help to foster exchanges of views conducive to launching new joint projects.
