EDWARDS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. – Kevin L. Petersen, Director of NASA’s Dryden Flight Research Center, has announced the appointment of two employees to senior management positions at the center.
Bradley C. Flick has been appointed Chief Engineer of the center, a senior level position, after serving in the role in an acting capacity since late 2005. As chief engineer, Flick is responsible for independent technical oversight of flight projects to assure consistency with center procedures and philosophies, including establishment and coordination of independent review activities.
Prior to his present assignment, Flick held several management positions from 1998 through 2005, including Associate Director for Flight Operations, Deputy Director for Research Engineering, Director for Engineering, and chief of the Flight Systems branch of Dryden’s Research Engineering Directorate. Flick’s engineering career at Dryden began in 1986 when he was assigned to flight systems and operations engineering on the High Alpha Research Vehicle project. He had lead roles in the development and integration of a number of experimental systems developed for that project.
James W. Harris has been named as director of Dryden’s Test Systems Directorate. In his new position, Harris is responsible for planning, directing and coordinating all directorate activities, including the development, operation and maintenance of specialized range, simulation, and telecommunications facilities and the design, upgrade and maintenance of related infrastructure.
Harris joined Dryden in 1999 as the chief engineer of the Western Aeronautical Test Range, and has also served as Branch Chief of Range Engineering, Range Manager and most recently as Deputy Director of Test Systems at Dryden. He previously served as chief of the Research Aircraft Integration Facility and Flight Loads Laboratory support branch for Sparta, Inc., at Dryden in 1998. He is a veteran of 36 years in the aerospace industry in a variety of disciplines.
