After a successful
European debut in Toulouse, France, the Space Foundation
announced today that the 2003 International Space Symposium will
be held in Washington, D.C.
Conducted by the Space Foundation, in association with Space
News, the French Space Agency (CNES) and more than 30
participating agencies and supporting organizations, the
International Space Symposium brought more than 400 registrants,
speakers, exhibitors, and media to the European space capital for
plenary sessions, special events and an international exhibit hall.
The event, which originated in 1999 as the International Space
Business Assembly and has convened each autumn at the Reagan
International Trade Center, took place Sept. 10-13 at the Centre De
Congrès Pierre-Baudis in Toulouse. Space industry CEO’s, CFO’s
and heads of agencies discussed the pressing business issues
facing the $100 billion global space industry. For the first time, the
event also featured a Space Law Symposium, which attracted
attorneys and others from both sides of the Atlantic.
During a reception at Le Capitole hosted by the Toulouse Mayor, the
Honorable Philippe Douste-Blazy, the Space Foundation, Space
News and Space.com (a subsidiary of Space Holdings) presented a
$25,000 check to the city of Toulouse on behalf of the world space
community to help rebuild the schools damaged by a chemical plant
explosion there last September. Contributions were collected from
around the world.
The Space Foundation is a national non-profit organization
advancing space endeavors and space education. The 19th
National Space Symposium is scheduled April 7-10, 2003 at The
Broadmoor Hotel in Colorado Springs; while the 2003 International
Space Symposium returns to the Reagan International Trade Center
