What: In this next exciting phase of “Mission 26: ET Comes Home,” ET-94 will arrive in Marina del Rey on May 18, 2016. Beginning at 6:00 am, ET-94 will clear the breakwater of the Marina and slowly come to dock next to Fisherman’s Village. The external tank will be driven off the barge per the offloading procedure, and welcomed with a press conference featuring Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti and California Science Center President Jeffrey Rudolph, among other civic leaders and elected officials.
ET-94 is the last remaining external tank, built for flight but never used, and donated to the Science Center by NASA. Its acquisition completes the California Science Center’s Shuttle Launch Vehicle – enabling us to preserve and display the only existing full stack of real Solid Rocket Boosters, Orbiter, and External Tank. ET-94 will arrive in Los Angeles after a journey that took it from the Michoud Assembly Facility in New Orleans, through the Panama Canal, and up the Pacific coast.
Vantage points for the arrival of the barge can be found in and around Fisherman’s Village. The news conference will be held inside Emmert International’s fenced-in offloading work zone, and we recommend those covering the press conference be inside this zone early. No one will be able to enter or exit this work zone between 10 am and 10:30 am, as ET-94 is driven off the barge.
Those wishing to access the event at Fisherman’s Village need to submit their name and credentials to et94media@cscmail.org in advance. Media will need to check-in at the event to receive a wristband for access.
