Emergent
Information Technologies Inc. Friday announced the
promotion of Dr. Andrew Endal to senior vice president managing the
Space Sciences Sector.
Formerly head of Emergent’s Space Sciences Division in Maryland,
Endal will now report directly to Ron Oxley, Emergent’s group
president and general manager in Vienna, Va.
Commenting on the changes, Oxley said: “We promoted both Andy
and his business unit. This recognizes two things: Andy’s success in
building our space sciences business and the growing importance of
space sciences within Emergent.” Emergent has won three multi-year
space science contract awards this year totaling $57 million.
Emergent’s Space Sciences Sector develops and operates data
systems for processing and managing remote sensing data from
scientific missions such as NASA’s Landsat 7 and Earth Observing
System (EOS)/Terra satellites and the European Space Agency’s Solar
Heliosphere Observatory (SOHO) spacecraft.
Emergent is part of a team recently selected by NASA to provide
engineering, science and software support for the Space and Earth
Science Directorates at Goddard Space Flight Center.
Regarding this most recent win, Endal said: “This contract doubles
the Space Science Sector’s revenues and staff and provides an
excellent platform for pursuing contracts to build ground systems for
future remote sensing systems such as the combined U.S.
civilian/military weather satellites.
“Our combination of scientific and information systems expertise
puts us in a position to be the provider of first choice in the remote
sensing data management field.” Endal has a Ph.D. in physics and
astronomy.
His experience includes research at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight
Center, academic research and teaching at Kansas State University and
Louisiana State University, and data systems project management for
Emergent.
He has published more than 70 scientific articles on remote
sensing techniques and computer solutions of equations that describe
the physical processes in stellar interiors, as well as the
atmospheres of the Sun and the Earth.
