EchoStar Corporation (NASDAQ: SATS) reported today that it has begun in-orbit testing of its new EchoStar XXIII satellite following successful placement into its geosynchronous orbital slot at 45° West longitude.
“We are excited to take this step in the expansion of our satellite fleet,” said Anders Johnson, president of EchoStar Satellite Services L.L.C. “EchoStar XXIII, a highly flexible Ku-band satellite capable of supporting multiple mission profiles, will provide high-power Direct-to-Home services into Brazil.”
The satellite was manufactured by Space Systems Loral (SSL) and launched on a SpaceX Falcon 9 launch vehicle from Launch Complex 39A at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center—the first commercial launch from the historic launch complex—at 2:00 am EDT, 6:00 am UTC on March 16, 2017. EchoStar XXIII brings the EchoStar fleet to 26 owned, leased and managed satellites.
