Four Discovery Channel Viewers From New York, Oregon and Ohio Will Appear On-Air During Premiere of INSIDE THE SPACE STATION On Sunday, December 10, Asking the Expedition One Crew Questions About Life Aboard the Space Station
The premiere this Sunday, December
10, of the Discovery Channel’s “Watch With The World” program INSIDE THE SPACE
STATION is complemented by a Friday, December 8 Discovery News special focused
on the International Space Station that will include interviews with both
President Clinton and the Space Station Expedition One crew.
In addition,
four Discovery Channel viewers asking questions of the crew aboard the station
about life in space will be featured in interstitial breaks during the Sunday
night premiere of INSIDE THE SPACE STATION.
In A DISCOVERY NEWS SPECIAL REPORT: EXPLORING SPACE to air Friday,
December 8 at 9PM (ET/PT), President Clinton will speak about the goals of the
International Space Station and his hopes for the space program in general in
an exclusive interview with Discovery Channel contributor and NBC News anchor
Forrest Sawyer taped earlier this week.
The President’s interview will air after a question-and-answer session
taped at mission control at Johnson Space Center with Discovery News host Len
Cannon and the Expedition One crew currently aboard the International Space
Station.
As part of the interview Discovery News conducted with the Expedition One
crew, questions submitted by four Discovery Channel viewers were answered by
the crew.
The viewers were selected from among those who participated in a
USA Weekend/Discovery Channel online poll.
The four viewers and the
astronauts will be featured in interstitals during the premiere of Discovery
Channel’s INSIDE THE SPACE STATION on Sunday, December 10 (9-10PM ET/PT).
The viewers who will appear on-air during INSIDE THE SPACE STATION are:
Karin Power of Pendleton, Oregon; Mary Gray of Streetsboro, Ohio; Jim Deatsch
of Penfield, New York; and Peter Damico of Apalachin, New York.
INSIDE THE SPACE STATION is Discovery Channel’s third “Watch with the
World” event, airing in primetime in 150 countries and 32 languages on Sunday,
December 10, 2000 (from 9-10 PM in the U.S.).
In the U.S., the program is
narrated by actor Liam Neeson (Stars Wars: The Phantom Menace).
Shot on high
definition video and using state-of-the-art computer-generated images, INSIDE
THE SPACE STATION shows viewers what the finished international space station
will look like — inside and out — and how astronauts work in space to
construct this ambitious project, designed to be a multi-room space platform
and research facility.
A short interstitial break at the end of the hour-long
program will bring viewers an update on the status of the Expedition One crew
and the current shuttle mission to install the solar arrays designed to power
the station.
