The following statement concerning today’s successful Delta IV
launch may be attributed to Elliot G. Pulham, president and chief
executive officer of the Space Foundation:
“The toughest thing about space is getting there, and Delta IV brings
tremendous new capabilities to Boeing’s commercial and
government customers. Along with the Lockheed Martin Atlas V,
Delta IV strengthens considerably the position of U.S. companies in
the commercial launch business, especially against the chief heavy
lift competitor, France’s Ariane V.
“Both the Boeing stockholder and the U.S. taxpayer have made
considerable investments in the Delta IV. Today’s flight
demonstrates that while space can still be a risky business,
investment in space research and development does have its
rewards.”
