On August 25, 2000, we invite you to join in the celebration and help us
open an exciting new window on the Universe. On that date, the National
Science Foundation’s National Radio Astronomy Observatory (NRAO) and
Associated Universities, Inc., will dedicate the world’s largest fully
steerable radio telescope. The Green Bank Telescope (GBT) dedication
ceremony will occur at 1:00 p.m. at the NRAO site in Green Bank, West
Virginia.

A slate of media activities is planned, and will include a tour conducted
on and inside the GBT itself, and a guided tour of the many historic
telescopes at the site.

The dedication ceremony will feature remarks from Dr. Rita R. Colwell,
Director of the National Science Foundation, and a keynote address by
U.S. Senator Robert C. Byrd (D. – W.Va.), whose support was critical for
the construction of this new telescope. NASA Administrator Daniel Goldin
is also scheduled to offer remarks.

Media representatives are invited to attend an 11:30 a.m. luncheon prior
to the ceremony, along with NRAO staff and other guests. R.S.V.P.s for the
luncheon will be appreciated. Please contact Ms. Shirley Curry, at
304-456-2240, or by e-mail at: scurry@nrao.edu.
