European teleport operator CET has signed a three-year lease for Ku-band capacity aboard SES’s NSS-12 satellite to expand links between Europe and the rapidly growing East Africa market, SES of Luxembourg said in a Feb. 26 press release.

Contract terms were not disclosed.

With this lease, CET now has complete coverage of Africa, SES said. CET was already providing Ku-band services to South Africa via SES’s NSS-7 satellite.

“Some of the services CET Teleport provides are for remote parts of Africa, which are best served by satellites,” Simon Gatty Saunt, SES vice president for data and mobility services, said in a prepared statement. “The high-powered NSS-12 satellite with its comprehensive coverage over East Africa and uplink beam over Europe has enabled SES to support CET as it continues to roll out of VSAT [very small aperture terminal] enterprise services across the region.”
