D-Orbit, the Italian space transportation company, has announced the launch of Aurora, a customizable, cloud-based mission control software suite specially designed for the next-generation small satellite constellations.

Aurora’s cloud architecture promises to reduce mission costs by turning the unpredictable expenses connected to software design, development, testing, deployment, and maintenance to a recurrent, predictable cost. The platform’s software architecture is modular and can be adapted to support the most common CubeSat missions. A worldwide network of ground stations, in collaboration with Amazon AWS Ground Station and Leaf Space, ensures a global coverage that can be tailored to the needs and the budget of any space mission. The use of AES256 encryption 2FA token user authentication ensures state-of-the-art cybersecurity protection.

“We began developing the core of Aurora five years ago to control D-Sat, D-Orbit’s first mission launched in June 2017,” said Renato Panesi, D-Orbit CCO. “Today, Aurora is ready to take over much bigger challenges, including our own upcoming InOrbit NOW satellite missions.”

Clients will enjoy continuous updates, a fully customizable user interface, and the possibility to control satellites from any location through a variety of computer platforms. Operators can also completely outsource the control of the mission to D-Orbit and focus on data processing.
