The Commercial Spaceflight Federation is deeply saddened by the passing of a great American pioneer and hero, astronaut John Glenn. The CSF and the Nation are indebted to Senator Glenn for his lifetime of public service, leadership, and the profound impact he had on our nation’s space enterprise and image around the world.
Senator Glenn was the first American to orbit the Earth, and was the fifth overall person in space. He later set the world record for the oldest person to fly in space when he flew aboard the Space Shuttle in 1998 at the age of 77 as a Payload Specialist on STS-95. His historic role in opening the space frontier will never be forgotten.
