This September, Challenger Advisory Board Member Sarah Brightman will travel to the International Space Station (ISS) to fulfill her lifelong dream of traveling to space. Part of a three-person crew traveling aboard a Soyuz rocket, Sarah will dock with the ISS and orbit the Earth 16 times daily with plans to become the first professional musician to sing from space.
Today, during a press conference in London, Sarah spoke about her September trip to the International Space Station and unveiled her mission patch. She also announced plans for our Global STEAM Challenge.
This spring, Challenger Center and Sarah will ask students around the globe to perform one of Sarah’s songs using their favorite artistic talent. Video entries will be posted online for public viewing and voting, and the top entries and other fan favorites will be used to create one musical mashup video. The summer-long initiative will culminate in a special event during Sarah’s time aboard the ISS when students at Challenger Learning Centers in the UK and the U.S. get the chance to chat with Sarah live.
Challenger Center is thrilled to work with Sarah Brightman and our partner NASA to not only excite students about science, technology, engineering and math, but also teach them how the arts can help further unleash innovation and inspiration (STEAM).
