WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Barbara A. Mikulski (D-Md.), Chairwoman of the Senate Appropriations Committee and the Commerce, Justice, Science (CJS) Appropriations Subcommittee that funds NASA, today applauded the Obama Administrations approval of recommendations made by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) to extend the operations of the International Space Station (ISS) from 2020 to at least 2024.
“I applaud the decision to extend the operations of the International Space Station. ISS supports American innovation at home and reinforces our scientific partnerships around the world. Keeping ISS flying – and continuing the important research that goes on there – means taxpayers get more bang for the buck from this unique laboratory.
“I will keep fighting for labs like the ISS that strengthen America’s innovation economy and keep the U.S. competitive in the global arena. I will continue to preserve balanced funding for NASA’s investments in science, aeronautics, technology and safe human space flight. Continuing ISS keeps NASA – and the United States – in the forefront of innovation, inspiring private companies to build new space transportation, and spawning advanced technologies and new industries creating jobs today and jobs tomorrow.”
