Today NOAA’s National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI) released a decadal update of new Climate Normals for the U.S. This update includes the latest information for 1991-2020, incorporating averages and statistics for temperature, precipitation, and other parameters that put our current weather into a context that is vital for making climate-related decisions.
“The impacts of the climate crisis are already present in our daily lives, and we must effectively plan for our long-term success and safety as a nation,” said Chairwoman Eddie Bernice Johnson (D-TX). “Today’s release of our nation’s new Climate Normals provides us with updated climate information that reflect our ‘new normal.’ The data reveal new precipitation patterns that make clear the reality of climate change that many of us observe today—as well as a notable upward trend in average temperatures across much of the nation. The updated Climate Normals help ensure we have the best data available as we work together—across the science community, the agricultural and infrastructure sectors, and government at all levels—to address the climate crisis and build a resilient and sustainable future.”
