Central Square native Matthew Noyes is tweeting his internship experience with NASA during the fall semester. His twitter handle is @jsc_intern_matt.
Noyes found out about the Undergraduate Student Research Program (USRP) from a relative who knew how much Noyes wanted to work for NASA. He decided to apply and was one of the lucky few accepted for this unique opportunity and is now working at JSC during the fall semester.
Noyes has been assigned to work on the Human System Interface Display System for Autonomous Lunar Hazard Avoidance Technology (ALHAT). ALHAT is designed to allow autonomous spacecraft to land in lunar, planetary, near-Earth orbit and terrestrial environments.
A secondary project he was assigned when not working with ALHAT is to help build a cockpit mockup for astronaut evaluations and develop system displays for three-dimensional model viewing and interaction.
He is a junior at the University of Rochester, majoring in physics, and plans to graduate in 2013.

The NASA Undergraduate Student Research Program is an internship that offers NASA research and development opportunities. USRP offers internships in engineering, science, and mathematics that give students the ultimate STEM workforce preparatory experience. USRP is one of most highly comprehensive internship programs for undergraduate students. Students work on practical problems that will see real applications in aerospace or on future NASA missions.
