NASA/MSFC plans to issue a Request for Quotation (RFQ) for partnering with educational entities (High Schools) to participate in the 2001-2002 “For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology” (FIRST) Robotics Regional and National Competitions. The FIRST Robotics Competition, designed for high school students, is a national engineering contest which teams high school students with engineers from Government and business in the design, construction, and testing of a champion robot. Proposals are sought from high schools that are within a 50-mile radius of the Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC), Huntsville, Alabama.

This procurement is being conducted under the Simplified Acquisition Procedures (SAP). The Government does not intend to acquire a commercial item using FAR Part 12. See note 26. The NAICS Code and Size Standard are 611110 and $5M, respectively. The DPAS Rating for this procurement is DO-C9. The anticipated release date of RFQ 8-1-1-C6-D4794 is on or about June 20, 2001 with an anticipated quote due date of on or about July 18, 2001.

All qualified responsible educational entities (High Schools) within a 50-mile radius of MSFC may submit a quote which shall be considered by the agency. An ombudsman has been appointed — See NASA Specific Note “B”. The solicitation and any documents related to this procurement will be available over the Internet. These documents will be in Microsoft Office 97 format and will reside on a World Wide Web (WWW) server, which may be accessed using a WWW browser application.

Prospective offerors shall notify this office of their intent to submit an offer.
