“The President’s skinny budget is an encouraging statement of priorities for the new administration, including increased investments in key areas of space and aeronautics.
“The boosted funding for NASA’s Earth sciences mission, one of my top priorities for NASA, is the kind of approach the country needs to support a strong, data-driven response to the climate crisis. It is refreshing to see sustained funding for high priority science missions like the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope after having to fight the previous administration every year over its attempts to eliminate or drastically cut them. The strong support for the Mars Sample Return mission and increased funding for the Artemis program is welcome news that I hope will draw bipartisan support on Capitol Hill. I am also heartened to see support for NASA’s contributions to sustainable aviation, an important topic that our Subcommittee examined in a recent hearing.
“The Biden-Harris Administration is also reaffirming its commitment to inclusiveness and diversity in the space program, with increased funding for the Office of STEM Engagement, and with NASA’s just-announced historic commitment to land the first person of color on the Moon.
“I look forward to continuing to review the budget proposal and to working with the Administration and my colleagues in Congress on robust funding for NASA to enhance American leadership in space exploration, research and development, and innovation. ”
