ATK Thiokol Propulsion, a division of Alliant Techsystems, and
IsoTruss Structures, Inc. today announced the signing of a memorandum of
understanding for collaboration on the analysis and distribution of composite
lattice structures for commercial and military products.
IsoTruss uses patented new geometric technology to create composite
structures with extremely high strength-to-weight ratios. The new agreement
will enable the two companies to provide application-specific solutions to
customers in the military, international aerospace industry and commercial
markets that rely on high-performance, lightweight structures.
“We’re excited to tap the technical expertise and worldwide business
operations that ATK brings,” said Christopher Derrington, CEO of IsoTruss.
“We hope that by jointly working together to meet the needs of our customers
and develop new applications for IsoTruss, we will enable ATK to enhance its
product offerings.”
ATK Thiokol Propulsion is the world’s leading supplier of solid-propellant
rocket motors. The company produces the largest solid rocket motors in the
world — the Space Shuttle reusable solid rocket motor and the Titan IVB solid
rocket motor upgrade. The company’s employees are specialists in the design
and analysis of materials and components for both ongoing programs and next-
generation technologies.
“This agreement benefits ATK in both the short and long term,” said Andy
Haaland, manager of Propulsion Technology Business Development at ATK Thiokol
Propulsion. “IsoTruss Structures brings us technical work and we will help
them with analysis to bring products to market. Developing new applications
and products will help us maintain a strong position in the industry.”
ATK will provide structural and complex composite analysis for IsoTruss,
facilitating advanced technology development programs to produce new
applications that could be utilized by IsoTruss.
