Alliant Techsystems has named David Riemer vice president of Science and Engineering for the company’s Launch Systems Group.

Riemer brings to his position 27 years of aerospace experience with the Raytheon Company. Most recently he was vice president of Product Development and Engineering in Wichita, Kansas, where he directed and managed new product development programs for future growth and all major product upgrades. In that role he was responsible for a 1,500-employee engineering, manufacturing and technology organization. This included traditional design, analytical, manufacturing, industrial and environmental engineering along with experimental manufacturing and assembly, flight and ground test, industrial and flight safety, and accident investigation.

Riemer earned a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science (Magna cum laude), with minors in Mechanical Engineering and Finance, from the University of Utah in 1975, and a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Utah in 1976. During his college career, he worked summers as an engineering intern at Thiokol’s Promontory, Utah, facility.

The Launch Systems Group Science and Engineering organization provides the technical backbone for the company. It is charged with developing new technology for insertion into the propulsion, ordnance and defense business; providing creative, timely and innovative technology solutions to ATK corporate-wide challenges and initiatives; and creating spin-off technology that enables new business opportunities.
