A new composite of images taken by NASA’s
Deep Space 1 spacecraft when it flew by comet
Borrelly on Sept. 22, 2001, shows features of the
comet’s nucleus, dust jets escaping the nucleus
and the cloudlike “coma” of dust and gases
surrounding the nucleus. False color is used to
reveal details of the jets and coma.
