Aerojet, a GenCorp (NYSE:GY) company and its strategic alliance partner Teledyne Brown Engineering, Inc., a subsidiary of Teledyne Technologies Incorporated (NYSE:TDY), announced today that the companies hosted Alabama Governor Robert Bentley, along with Congressman Mo Brooks and several other dignitaries at Teledyne Brown’s headquarters in Huntsville, Ala.
The event demonstrated the technical and program progress the partners have made since the alliance was created a year ago as well as highlighted the unveiling of an Aerojet AJ26 liquid rocket engine at its new home at Teledyne Brown. The AJ26 is just one of many potential development and production programs under the Aerojet-Teledyne Brown strategic alliance that could lead to significant engineering and manufacturing work in Huntsville.
“The arrival of the AJ26 at our manufacturing facility is another milestone in the progression of our partnership,” said Rex D. Geveden, president, Teledyne Brown Engineering. “Aerojet’s exceptional capabilities in propulsion systems development, coupled with our spaceflight systems design and precision manufacturing has created a formidable team that can deliver lower-cost, high-performance rocket engines to our customers.”
Aerojet’s Vice President of Space and Launch Systems, Julie Van Kleeck, agreed. “Aerojet is excited about this partnership as it brings the best of both worlds to Alabama. This collaboration allows TBE and Aerojet to do what each does best and the result is a very competitive offering that will benefit NASA, the Air Force and all of our end users.”
The partnership was established to cooperatively develop, manufacture and market liquid propellant rocket engines for government contracts including NASA’s Space Launch System Advanced Booster Engineering Demonstration and Risk Reduction program as well as for other U.S. government programs.
Carlton Brewer, Aerojet’s Huntsville site executive, emphasized that both companies have been a part of the Huntsville community for more than 50 years. “We will extend that relationship and have the opportunity to bring as many as 1,400 jobs to the area as these programs mature,” he said.
