NovelSat, a technology company that develops and manufactures satellite-based video and content transmission solutions, announced that it has received a grant from the BIRD Foundation for its cooperation with igolgi, which specializes in developing compression solutions for video delivery. The grant will support a joint project of the two companies in the field of satellite video distribution and will greatly improve the transfer of video and audio content between content providers and distributors as well as to 5G networks.

As part of the joint research and development process, NovelSat and igolgi are working together to develop an end-to-end integrated video encoding and modulation solution that will enable wide satellite transmission of video and audio channels and will improve the efficiency of satellite broadcasting. The solution focuses on significantly increasing the number of video channels that can be transmitted at a given bandwidth, without compromising viewing quality. In addition to streamlining video transmission between content providers and content distributors and users, the collaboration between the companies will also enable high-efficiency distribution of content and video channels directly to the base stations of 4G and 5G networks, while reducing the load on the terrestrial transmission network.

“Our partnership with igolgi, with the support of the BIRD Foundation, will enable us to expand our activities and continue to lead the way in the field of satellite content connectivity,” said Gary Drutin, CEO of NovelSat. “Our flexible business model gives us the ability to cooperate with strategic partners to increase our competitive edge.”

“Partnering with NovelSat to significantly improve the efficiency of media transmission over satellite is timely, given the market demand for higher resolution video and much greater volume of video traffic,“ said Dr. Kumar Ramaswamy, President of igolgi. “With the BIRD Foundation support, we can now accelerate our cooperative efforts to bring useful products to the satellite video delivery market.”

About the BIRD Foundation

The BIRD (Binational Industrial Research and Development) Foundation works to encourage and facilitate cooperation between U.S. and Israeli companies in a wide range of technology sectors and offers funding to selected projects. BIRD has approved close to 974 projects over its 41-year history.

The BIRD Foundation supports projects without receiving any equity or intellectual property rights in the participating companies or in the projects, themselves. BIRD funding is repaid as royalties from sales of products that were commercialized as a result of BIRD support. The Foundation provides funding of up to 50% of a project’s budget, beginning with R&D and ending with the initial stages of sales and marketing. The Foundation shares the risk and does not require repayment if the project fails to reach the sales stage. www.birdf.com
