Dr. Janet L. Kavandi, director of NASA’s Glenn Research Center, announced on Thursday that Laurence “Larry” A. Sivic has been appointed as the center’s associate director. In this new position, Sivic will be responsible for the management of institutional operations at Glenn, while managing the coordination, integration and evaluation of activities across directorates and organizations.
“Larry has been a critical asset to NASA Glenn, overseeing one of the largest increases in workload and budget in our center’s history,” said Kavandi. “His leadership experience, coupled with his extensive knowledge of the center’s mission and organizational structure, will help us to continuously adapt and improve, ensuring Glenn remains an integral part of NASA’s space exploration and aeronautics missions.”
Prior to his appointment to this position, he served as NASA Glenn’s chief financial officer (CFO), responsible for leading and managing the development, implementation, and administration of all center budgeting ($850 million in fiscal year 2019), accounting, business systems, financial audits, internal controls and cost-estimating activities.
Sivic joined NASA in 2004 after an extensive career in the private sector and has served as the CFO since September 2011. Prior to his role as CFO, he served as the chief of the Mission Support and Integration Office, supporting the center and agency on various Integrated Enterprise Management Programs.
The Broadview Heights, Ohio, native is the recipient of several federal government and NASA awards, including a Presidential Rank Award and two Outstanding Leadership Medals. He was named Crain’s Cleveland Business non-profit CFO of the Year in 2017, and was the recipient of the 2016 Ohio Diversity Council’s Leadership Excellence Award. Sivic earned his Bachelor of Science in computer science from Bowling Green State University.
