NASA is traveling to the Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minnesota, area Tuesday and Wednesday, Sept. 22-24, to highlight and share the accomplishments, promise and opportunities for research onboard the International Space Station.
NASA astronaut Mike Hopkins, a flight engineer onboard the International Space Station during Expeditions 37 and 38, and the International Space Station Program Science Office’s Pete Hasbrook will be available to the media Sept. 22 and 23.
The pair will meet with the general public at an informative and casual event for Speakeasy Science Night at Honey in downtown Minneapolis, and discuss life and research onboard the station and how it benefits our lives here on Earth. Following the presentation, there will be a brief question and answer session and a photo opportunity. The event is free and open to the public.
While in Minneapolis, NASA also will partner with the Center for the Advancement of Science in Space (CASIS), and visit with local industries. CASIS’s Director of Business Development Cynthia Bouthot also will be available for media interviews.
The space station utilizes microgravity, extreme conditions and low-Earth orbit to provide a unique science platform that has enabled more than 2,400 researchers in 83 countries to conduct more than 1,700 innovative experiments. Since 2000, the station has supported investigations in the areas of biology and biotechnology, human health, technology demonstrations and Earth, space and physical science.
