Nineteen legends of air travel and spaceflight will be honored Aug. 13 with induction into the newly formed Langley Research Center NACA and NASA Hall of Honor.

This is the first induction into the Hall of Honor, which was conceived by the Langley Alumni Association and NASA Langley as a way to recognize researchers who achieved revolutionary advances.
Inductees range from the engineer who conceived of the lunar orbit and rendezvous concept for landing on the moon, to the researcher whose mathematical formula made routine supersonic flight possible.
Family members will accept the honors for all but one inductee – John V. Becker, who at age 101 plans to attend. Becker contributed critical concepts and leadership in high-speed aerodynamics programs for the NACA and NASA, including hypersonic efforts that resulted in the highly successful X-15 research aircraft program.

This first induction is being held in celebration of the 100th anniversary of the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics (NACA), which became NASA in 1958. The next induction is planned for 2017 in celebration of Langley’s 100th anniversary.
