NASA is hosting Louisiana Aerospace Day activities May 14 at the State Capitol in Baton Rouge. Media are invited to attend.
Patrick Scheuermann, director of NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center, astronaut Rick Mastracchio and other NASA team members will meet with state and university officials and the public to recognize the space agency’s enduring partnerships in the State of Louisiana and to celebrate the Louisiana workforce that supports NASA and the nation.
NASA exhibits on display at the Capitol from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. CDT will give public audiences a look at work underway on the Space Launch System, Orion and other NASA projects, including some of the NASA-related educational initiatives at Louisiana universities and schools.
At 10 a.m. media are invited to attend a signing ceremony at the Capitol marking the renewal of a cooperative agreement in support of the National Center for Advanced Manufacturing, at NASA’s Michoud Assembly Facility in New Orleans. Through NCAM, NASA is expanding its efforts to engage industry and academia on advanced manufacturing topics central to the nation’s space mission, with a particular focus on manufacturing technologies that reduce the weight of materials during space flight. The signing event will include NASA, Louisiana State University and state representatives and take place at the House Members’ Lounge in the basement of the Capitol building. Scheuermann and Mastracchio will be available to press immediately following the ceremony.
NASA representatives will visit area universities, public schools and Boys and Girls Clubs to talk about space exploration and the importance of education. At 11:45 a.m. CDT, Mastracchio and NASA team members will visit Scotlandville Magnet High School at 9870 Scotland Ave. in Baton Rouge.
