WASHINGTON, November 13, 2014–The Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) announces that the Honorable Sean O’Keefe has joined the Center as a Distinguished Senior Adviser.
“I am delighted to welcome Sean to the Center,” said John J. Hamre, president, CEO, and the Pritzker Chair at CSIS. “He has led some of the world’s largest and most complex organizations as well as being an exemplary servant to his country. His experience will be immensely useful as we seek solutions to the world’s most intractable problems.”
Sean O’Keefe served as a Presidential appointee confirmed by the Senate on four separate occasions, most recently as the 10th Administrator of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). He has also served as Chief Financial Officer of the Defense Department, Deputy Director of the Office of Management and Budget as well as the 69th Secretary of the Navy.
Mr. O’Keefe served as Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Airbus Group Inc., a global leader in aerospace, defense and space services. He served as Chancellor at Louisiana State University, on the Board of Trustees at his undergraduate alma mater Loyola University of New Orleans, and as chairman of the advisory board at his graduate school alma mater, Syracuse University’s Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs.
Syracuse University recently appointed Mr. O’Keefe to the posts of University Professor and the Phanstiel Chair of Strategic Management and Leadership at the Maxwell School. In these capacities at both institutions, he will play a leadership role in building the Maxwell School’s partnership with CSIS including expanding programming and executive education.
“CSIS has developed a stellar reputation as an important, objective catalyst to shape the public policy debate on a wide range of global security issues,” Mr. O’Keefe said. “I am delighted to have the privilege to participate in the debate with the added benefit of drawing on the partnership expertise of my colleagues at the Syracuse University Maxwell School.”
