The planned June 7 launch of NASA’s Low-Density Supersonic Decelerator (LDSD) has been delayed due to weather conditions at the U.S. Navy’s Pacific Missile Range Facility in Kauai, Hawaii, where the project’s test will occur. Winds are not favorable for the balloon-based launch, in which a saucer-shaped vehicle will fly in near-space to test landing technologies for future missions to Mars.
The next launch opportunities fall on June 9, 11 and 14.
The decision to move forward with a launch attempt of the LDSD test is made the day before each launch opportunity date. NASA will issue launch updates via the mission website, advisories and on Twitter at:
