NASA’s Glenn Research Center in Cleveland announces the selection of Konstantinos (Gus) S. Martzaklis as the center’s new chief of the Program and Product Assurance Division. His appointment was effective Dec. 29.
In his new position, Martzaklis leads a division that provides engineering and independent assessment services and products to support Glenn’s aeronautics research, space exploration and operations, science, and space technology missions. His division and its two subordinate branches are responsible for minimizing defects and reducing risks to ensure products and processes are of high quality and operate safely. This is accomplished through a variety of activities, including risk management, software and quality assurance, reliability engineering, and materials and processes engineering, among others.
“Gus brings broad experience in project management and strategic planning to the position,” said Anita Liang, Glenn’s director of Safety and Mission Assurance. “He stands out as a strong collaborator and believer in team approaches, which are both cornerstones of NASA’s workforce philosophy.”
A NASA employee for the past 26 years, Martzaklis served as Glenn’s associate director of Safety and Mission Assurance during the year prior to his appointment. Other previous Glenn assignments include acting deputy director, Safety and Mission Assurance Directorate; acting director, Office of Strategic Management, and acting project manager and project manager in NASA’s Space Communications and Navigation Program. He also served as the Aviation Safety and Airspace Systems Projects Office chief.
Martzaklis attended The University of Akron in Ohio, earning a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering in 1990. He later attended Case Western Reserve University, earning a master’s degree in engineering management in 1998. In 2008, he graduated from NASA’s Senior Executive Service Candidate Development Program.
