WASHINGTON, D.C. -Two aerospace industry veteran’s, George Torres of ATK and Bill Beckman of The Boeing Company, are leading The Coalition for Space Exploration’s (Coalition) advocacy efforts in 2013. So far this year, the Coalition has launched a robust national public engagement video contest in partnership with the NASA Visitor Center Complex Consortium.
Torres, Coalition chair, has been an active member of the Coalition throughout its eight-year duration. He works as the vice president of communications for ATK’s Aerospace Group. His previous experience includes leading communications organizations at Rockwell International, Boeing, Hughes Space and Communications Company, and The Aerospace Corporation. Torres has also written two books on the U.S. space program, which earned him the Journalism Award of Excellence from the Aviation/Space Writers Association.
“These are exciting times for the space industry, but economic uncertainties pose a serious threat to our progress,” Torres said. “I’m proud to lead the Coalition as we continue to advance the dialogue surrounding the importance of space exploration to our country.”
Beckman, Coalition deputy chair, currently serves as the Director for NASA Programs in the Washington, D.C., Operations office for The Boeing Company. Beckman has a strong background in business development, marketing and field operations for various programs within Rocketdyne Power & Propulsion and The Boeing Company. He brings more than 25 years of aerospace experience to the Coalition leadership team.
“Space exploration has led to game-changing innovations and ideas with tremendous value to mankind,” Beckman said. “Never has it been more important to raise awareness of this value among our leaders and the general public. I’m pleased to join George in guiding the Coalition to having this conversation with America.”
