Atlanta, October 1, 2012 – SpaceWorks Engineering, a division of SpaceWorks Enterprises, Inc. (SEI), announced today that Ms. Elizabeth Buchen has been promoted to the position of Director of the Engineering Economics Group (EEG). Ms. Buchen will manage the EEG and provide support for its customers through a variety of systems engineering and risk analysis services.

“We are very pleased to have Elizabeth leading the EEG,” said Dr. John Bradford, President of the Engineering Division. “Our business line in the area of life cycle cost continues to expand. I know with her leadership and capabilities in this area, we will continue to offer the best solutions in the industry to our customers.”

Prior to her appointment as Director of the EEG, Ms. Buchen worked for nearly three years in the EEG as a Space Systems Engineer. In this role, she completed numerous independent cost estimates of conceptual systems, including hardware and flight project work breakdown structure (WBS) costs. Program support has spanned the NASA-Air Force Joint Systems Study, the DARPA-NASA Horizontal Launch Study (HLS), NASA MSFC’s Heavy Lift Propulsion Technology (HLPT) Study, and support to both NASA Langley’s Office of the Chief Financial Officer (OCFO) and the NASA Strategic Analysis Cost Team. She also managed the development of the Cost Research and Analogy Library (CoRAL), which consolidates historical data into one central repository that contains all of the system metrics and cost data for a wide variety of aerospace systems.

“I am honored and thrilled to accept this leadership position,” said Ms. Buchen in a statement today. “I look forward to maintaining the EEG’s reputation for providing exceptional analysis to our customers, while also continually envisioning innovative ways to evaluate space systems’ program metrics.”

Ms. Buchen holds a Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering, with highest honors, from the Georgia Institute of Technology. As a member of the NASA Strategic Analysis Cost Team, she received a NASA Systems Engineering Excellence Award in 2010. Ms. Buchen is a member of the AIAA.
